Welcome to the Odette Forum
The Odette Forum is both an information repository for Odette recommendations and services and a collaboration platform for the Odette community, including committee and project group members or users who want to implement Odette recommendations and are looking for help or support. Data Exchange via Portals and EDI - survey results published
In the summer of 2009 Odette conducted an extensive survey on the use of portal applications and EDI for data exchange in the automotive industry. The results are now published.
Consortium led by Odette wins European contract to assist SMEs in the automotive supply chain
In July 2009 the European Commission issued a Call for Tenders for a service contract aimed at the harmonisation of business processes and data exchange architectures and standards, at European or international level, within the automotive sector. The objective is to facilitate the participation of SMEs in global digital supply chains and, being the leading collaboration platform for the European automotive industry, Odette naturally decided to enter a bid. We were delighted when the Commission recently announced that the consortium headed by Odette International had won the contract.
CEN publishes results of e-invoicing workshop
On 10th December 2009, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) published the results of its Workshop on ‘Electronic Invoices and Compliance’ in Europe. Substantial savings for business can be achieved through carrying out transactions electronically. However, this requires interoperable solutions, and, in the case of electronic invoicing, solutions that meet the needs of public authorities (regarding VAT, for example) across all European member states. With its approved deliverables, the open CEN Workshop ‘Electronic Invoices and Compliance’ represents a significant step in standardization regarding electronic invoicing in Europe.
OFTP2 Integration in Communication Solutions
OFTP2 is becoming the communications protocol of choice for an increasing number of automotive companies. Providers of communications solutions are integrating OFTP2 in their products to meet this demand.
Using RFID to streamline Container Management
Odette has just released its Best Practice Recommendation for the use of RFID in Supply Chain Container Management. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is playing an ever more important role in the automotive sector and, for some processes, radio-based identification is already superior to other identification procedures, such as bar-coding, in terms of process efficiency and quality criteria. RFID technology has been applied for many years in the industry, primarily in closed loop systems, which serve exclusively for the development of internal company processes but the full potential of RFID in the management of Containers or, to be more exact, Returnable Transport Items (RTIs) is only realized when the different elements of the supply chain use the same standards and technologies and information is processed at every stage in an open loop system.
Volvo Group is migrating to OFTP2
Due to the closing of X.25 and ISDN in Sweden, Volvo Group has decided to migrate all EDI partners currently using OFTP over X.25 and ISDN to OFTP2 over TCP/IP. Volvo expects the use of OFTP2 to reduce cost and increase performance, especially for the transmission of CAD files Volvo IT will discontinue support for X.25 by the end of June 2010 and for ISDN by the end of December 2010.
Global MMOG/LE V3 now available
The purpose of the MMOG/LE is to provide a single assessment tool that enables a comprehensive evaluation of MP&L performance and capability. The tool can be used by both supplier and customer throughout the entire product life cycle, including the early product development and pre-production phases, and the post-production aftermarket/service phases. MMOG/LE can be used by every partner in the supply chain for self-assessment, or can be used between business partners as an audit tool for supplier selection and evaluation. This guideline can be used internally as a continuous improvement tool, or externally as your customers require. This Excel file automatically calculates your Global MMOG/LE score and features a gap analysis tool.
Increasing the stability and transparency of the logistics process with the new "Automated Response to Despatch Advice" Recommendation
In a despatch advice message the supplier transmits information on shipped parts or assemblies and associated packages together with quantities, label numbers, serial numbers, departure and estimated arrival date/time. Various types of error can lead to a situation where a despatch advice cannot be processed by the receivers system. This recommendation describes a standardised, highly automated error handling process which can increase the stability and transparency of the logistic process.
Bridging the transport information gap with the new "Ready for Shipment Advice" Recommendation
In the automotive supply chain, approximately 75% of the value of the final product (the vehicle) is generated/produced by the suppliers. A deep sharing of work and sophisticated delivery processes are in use. Therefore, a closer integration of all involved business partners is desirable for the benefit of the vehicle manufacturers, the suppliers and the logistics service providers. The implementation of this recommendation helps to provide increased control over the supply chain transport process, to have better and more reliable information for performance evaluation and to avoid disturbances in production caused by delayed transport of materials.
PSA PEUGEOT CITROËN off to a good start with OFTP2, the new Odette communication protocol
Over the past two years OFTP2, the new file transfer protocol developed under the auspices of the Odette Technology Committee, has reached maturity and is swiftly being incorporated into all types of data exchange solutions. Customers using these solutions can now communicate, via the internet, in a completely secure way, throughout the world. GALIA, the Odette National Organisation in France, has taken a look at the implementation of this new protocol with the leader of the OFTP2 deployment project at PSA.
ODETTE Certification Authority (CA) Service
The increasing use of the internet for data exchange and collaboration in the automotive and other Industries requires state-of-the-art security means. Odette CA offers the necessary Digital Certificates for OFTP2 data exchange, document and email signing & encryption and internet application protection.
Obtain your Odette ID via the new OSCAR Service
The Odette ID (aka OSCAR Code) provided by the OSCAR Service allows you to generate a worldwide unique identification for any business entity (commercial or technical) that needs to be identified in exchanges between industry partners. It is based on the requirements of the automotive industry but can be used by any industry sector.
