It was simply summed up by Pascal Born, Global Supply Chain Solutions Director at Caterpillar Logistics who said afterwards..…”Many good subjects and presentations and great opportunities for networking and exchanging with others from similar industries with similar challenges”.

There were a number of specific reasons why this initiative was undertaken:

This means that suppliers must often follow widely differing container labeling requirements, depending on the location of their customer’s operations. Studies show that unnecessary variations in this basic business process, multiplied by millions of parts transported every day, can lead to millions of dollars in added supply-chain costs each year. Members of automotive industry associations from Europe (Odette), Japan (JAMA/JAPIA) and North America (AIAG), have worked together to address this common problem.

The recommendation is the culmination of work by an Odette project team comprising BMW, Daimler, Bosch, Hella, ZF and Covisint supported by PingIdentity, Siemens, and Microsoft. The idea of Federated Identity Management is to enable Single-Sign-On (SSO) functionality across different security infrastructures in a standardised way. It is an enabling technology for addressing the demands of new business models (e.g. virtual companies, joint development programs, co-operation between companies etc.)
