Volvo Group is migrating to OFTP2
Due to the closing of X.25 and ISDN in Sweden, Volvo Group has decided to migrate all EDI partners currently using OFTP over X.25 and ISDN to OFTP2 over TCP/IP. Volvo expects the use of OFTP2 to reduce cost and increase performance, especially for the transmission of CAD files Volvo IT will discontinue support for X.25 by the end of June 2010 and for ISDN by the end of December 2010.
Volvo IT is running the OFTP2 migration project and will be starting a pilot with suppliers shortly. Suppliers interested to participate in the pilot should contact Volvo at oftp2@volvo.com.
How will Volvo Group use OFTP2
AB Volvo will implement session level encryption by using Transport Layer Security (TLS). The TLS provides data confidentiality by encryption of all protocol commands and data exchanged between Volvo Group and their partners. This will provide a high enough level of security to prevent a third party from extracting any useful information from the transmission.
Suppliers using OFTP2 will need to have an SSL certificate issued by a Certification Authority (CA) which is approved by Volvo.
The Odette CA, run by Odette International, is already approved by Volvo for this purpose.
